Leighan Brown, PA-C, MPAS
Leighan has been working as a Physician Assistant in Family Medicine since 2013 and she is the mother to four very active and vibrant teenagers. She graduated in 1992 from Texas Tech University with a degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. She worked in Hematology and Blood Banking. During this time, she also discovered her fascination and love for flying. She got her pilot’s license in 1993 and in 1998 took a leap of faith and left the laboratory to fly professionally, first as a flight instructor then as an airline pilot until 2007 when she was no longer able to fly due to medical reasons.
t was at this time that she decided to return to healthcare but this time as a Physician Assistant. She graduated from The University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio in 2013 with her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies degree. She did her master’s thesis in nutrition and food as medicine.
Leighan has always had a passion for healthy living, but it was while working on her master’s thesis that her eyes were really opened to the lack of public education on basic health and its relationship to nutrition.
Leighan deeply believes that nutrition, food, exercise, adequate and good quality sleep and healthy relationships with people and nature are essential to a healthy life - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Currently, she is studying botanical medicine through David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies two-year course and Rosemary Gladstar’s Art and Science of Herbalism. She also completed a course in herbalism and apothecary studies at The Human Path in 2015.
In her free time, she enjoys gardening, herbal medicine making, hiking, reading, relaxing in her Hill Country cabin and traveling with her kids.
